Babusingh Thakur Pedha was originally started by the Thakur family who had migrated from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh to Dharwad after plague broke out in Unnao in early 18th Century.
Mohansingh Thakur was first generation who migrated from Uttar Pradesh. Babusingh Thakur was the second generation who started producing Pedhas. His son Ramratansingh Thakur third generation who helped grow the family business further in their Line Bazaar where the first store was established and the Pedha came to be also known and called locally as the "Famous Line Bazaar Pedha".

It's important to note that while other confectioneries across India sell Dharwad Pedha, these aren't necessarily connected to the Thakur family's legacy.
The family closely guards the recipe of the Pedha as a trade secret which has been passed down the lineage. Babusingh Thakur's single outlet store that was running for a few decades expanded later in Dharwad, Hubli, Bangalore, Belgaum, Goa and Maharashtra. In many other cities around India other confectioneries also sell Dharwad Pedha which is not connected to the Thakur family.
From Humble Beginnings to National Expansion
Starting from a single store, Babusingh Thakur Pedha embarked on a journey of growth. In 2005, their first branch outside Dharwad was established in Hubli by Mr. Babusingh Thakur, the fourth generation (named after his grandfather). Over time, they expanded to Bangalore, Belgaum, Goa, and Maharashtra, sharing their delectable pedas with a wider audience.
